Dawn-Shiley-2015LDawn is the chief communications and marketing professional on ASMI’s staff and manages specific programs for several clients. She is proficient in newsletter writing, editing and production, oversees all client websites, and is the designer and webmaster for one client site. Since coming to the organization, she has moved most former print publications to electronic, saving clients money from printing and postage that is better used in their programs and other projects. Dawn manages social media for clients and provide guidance to other staff and members on social media best practices. She is also skilled at tracking and executing program plans/action items of boards and committees. She is the director of the International Association of Emergency Management’s Scholarship Program and provided guidance and assistance to the commission as it fundraises and distributes annual awards. She has more than 35 years experience in association management. Prior to coming to ASMI, Dawn was with the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) for 15 years, where she held numerous positions, including director of public affairs, which involved managing international trade issues and communications for SOCMA and several affiliated associations. While at SOCMA, she also managed OSHA, chemical weapons, and Congressional issues, and led the team that created SOCMA’s first website. She earned her B.A. from Vanderbilt University and M.A. from The George Washington University School for Public and International Affairs. She became a Certified Association Executive in 2016. “The CAE program stands as a mark of excellence and reflects what it takes to manage an association in today’s challenging climate,” according to the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). In 2013, she received The Social Media Business Equation Certification (TSMBE), a top certification program for professionals on social media media marketing. In 2014, she earned the Certified Virtual Event Planner designation from ICohere Academy.  She is an election official in Fauquier County, Va. Dawn joined ASMI in 2001.
